so, i've been avoiding mentioning the impending arrival of a big event in my life to you all... today's THE day... i'm turning 40. YIKES! i guess that is probably not such a huge surprise since for the last 9 months i have been pretty open about being 39 and an almost 40 year old intern... you had to have known i was going to be turning 40 sometime this year... unless i was like those kids from the first beverly hills 90210 tv series... you know what i'm talking about, they seemed to stay in high school for a decade and never really age on screen even though most were in their 30s in real life... well, trust me, i was slightly tempted to ignore the arrival of this day... but i decided i'm just gonna embrace it! so, in case you are wondering, i don't feel any differently... no pain in my joints or extra wrinkles or gray hair coming through as far as i can tell (phew!!) but we'll see how the rest of the day goes.
i have to say some folks have left some of the greatest comments on my blog... many of them starting over like me, or just dreaming of starting over... well, i want to give a shout out to a gal that left one last week... she's an almost 50 year old intern (you go girl!!!), incredibly young looking for her age as well... and is also in the middle of a career reinvention (hers to becoming a video editor)... she mentioned to me that when she filled out her internship application she wrote the following...
I quoted the inventor of the Ramen Noodle, Momofuko Ando: "I invented instant ramen when I was 48 and Cup Noodles at 61. In life, there is no such thing as too late."
well, i have to say that that is my new favorite quote and one for so many of us to live by no matter our age! so lynniij15, wherever you are, you rock on too fellow intern gal! so happy to have met a kindred spirit through bloggin' about this crazy ride i'm on! so many of us gals and guys are taking a chance and starting over these days... and i for one can confidently say i have no regrets for doing it! so, to turning 40 i say bring it!
while i was visiting my nonna a couple of weeks ago after taping my nate berkus show appearance i met a sassy gal that just turned 101! when i told her i was turning 40 within days of her big birthday she rolled her eyes and exclaimed "well, that's nothin' you're just a young thing!" how much did i love her? and she still drives and lives on her own! anyhow, this last year has been so amazing, i've done things i never imagined doing and i can't wait to see what the next 40 (or even 60 if i'm lucky!) years bring!
and a big thank you to nate berkus for making me forever known on his website and reruns as 39 :)
and yeah, you probably guessed that the pics above are of my 1st birthday. i love these old photos and how hip they were before the invention of hipstamatic for the iphone.... and some things never change, i still love a great piece of cake!
until next time!
the (holy cow! i can't believe it! now i'm 40!) year old intern
