motel mondays: part one

so this halloween weekend has been pretty great! it started with an early saturday morning darting around town starting at 6 am sharp with a good friend... ya see, we were on a mission to snap photos of some of the coolest (in our opinion) vintage motel signs around town! we needed to be up in time for the perfect light and also to help us avoid pedestrian and car traffic in order to get the good shots! these photos are going to be used in a collage wall we are creating for his living room.  we had the best time and learned a few lessons for our next motel photo shoot.. 1 - 6 am in los angeles in october is really dark. pitch black to be exact. so, perhaps next time we might get started a smidge later...  2 - some of the shots work best when taken from the middle of the street. well, it is l.a. and there is still traffic at 6 a.m. on a saturday and we were dodging cars and timing red lights all in the interest of a great shot... 3- a step ladder is a good thing to have handy... well, i forgot the darn step ladder this time but i plan on bringing one for our next photo adventure! i stood as high as i could on my tip toes this time out...

i love the photos we took so much that i decided to create "motel mondays" on my blog to share my fave l.a. vintage motel pics with you every monday. and if you love them and might happen to have a fab motel sign from your neck of the woods to share i encourage you to visit my facebook page and do so! my dream is to take a cross country roadtrip just to visit some of these little gems along the way. and right now i can just do a virtual road trip.  the beauty at the top of this post is located on hollywood blvd. and i'm not gonna lie, i'm a little nostalgic for the tech free era where "water beds" and "color tv" were selling points for a hotel... enough so that they added them to their signs!  and speaking of tech free, i am getting over my fear of my i-phone and fully embracing that fab hipstamatic app as shown in every single photo in this post... i'm still trying to understand siri...

oh, and we had to hit randy's donuts for an 8 am pick me up and i have to say my traditional glazed was fresh and yummy!

i love halloween... not just for those mini snickers bars but also for the opportunity to dress up and this year i was a flapper for a friends birthday/halloween party... i picked up some ostrich and peacock feathers at the local fabric store and sewed them to a strip of lace... voila! the perfect flapper head piece... driving with it on was a little tricky but luckily i caused no major accidents or moving violations... i could see it now, i'm sorry officer...

and i know this week is off to a great start because beckie at  knock off decor featured my bedroom wall painting diy on her site yesterday! cool, right??

so, for those of you just tuning in and wanting to know more about me you can by going here... and if you didn't already know... i created a facebook page... check it out and "like" it! and follow me on twitter

until next time!

the (am i really 40 now because i don't feel it!) year old intern
