motel mondays: part 17

happy motel monday! today's motel is the half moon motel located in culver city on sepulveda blvd.  a couple of weeks ago a few friends separately mentioned to me that there is a great little stretch of sepulveda with these quirky vintage motels.  so, this weekend i went to check them out and so glad i did!  i love this one... the retro blue and the stone facade... it just makes me smile!

i found out recently that i am going to be putting my design skills to work as part of a LA charity event.  i am super flattered that i was asked and very excited and busily brainstorming ideas... will share more on that with you soon!

so excited to share some of my latest metal smithing class accomplishments! A few weeks back I mentioned my obsession with pyrite.  well, i am happy to say i have finally put more of it to use!  i love how these brass and pyrite cuff bracelets turned out!  still not perfectly perfect but i think they are pretty cool.  most are christmas gifts.  for last christmas.  i know that was a few months ago but i was very busy doing important stuff like building houses in nepal...  hopefully i will complete my gift list soon. well, at least by june...
this stone reminds me of the moon...

so, in my lighting class last week we were told that we have to create and design a unique light fixture to present to our class at the end of the month.  i am so proud of some of my past diy lights and kind of tempted to use one of them for the assignment. i am still pretty obsessed with my most recent one... the mod bubble light...  and my very first one ever... the perforated brass pendant was pretty groovy.   since they were 100% unique and created by me wondering if it is a cop out if i use one of those???  then again, perhaps inspiration for something new will hit in the coming weeks before it is due? at least i have a back up plan...

before i forget, my pink geometric and yellow starburst painted rug diys were recently featured on a cool german site called geschnackvoll.  how cool is that?? you can go here to check it out!  sending a big dankeschön their way! glad i can finally use some german i picked up from my million views of ferris bueller!

for those of you just tuning in and wanting to know more about me you can by going here... and if you didn't already know... i created a facebook page... check it out and "like" it! and follow me on twitter and you can even follow my boards on pinterest too!

until next time...

  1. *snort* ferris bueller- that cracked me up!

Very cool cuffs, Holly! I really like the textures to them.

  2. Are you in LA? I have been looking for metal smithing classes, do you teach?

    1. I don't teach but I take metalsmithing classes at a fabulous place called Barnsdall Art Center! Reasonably priced and wonderful classes. Go here for more info.
