d.i.why not? modern troll art

I have to say that I am really in love with today's DIY!  I was asked to help jazz up a studio office for a gal that is producing a movie based on the Troll dolls.   Remember those?  Hello 80's!  Well, I wasn't cool enough to own a Troll doll but I do believe I did have a pencil with a troll head top back then.  And I loved it.  And I felt very cool writing with it.

Back to the office... I had the brilliant (if I do say so myself) idea to frame actual troll dolls in an installation to look like groovy modern art.  Frankly the look and the colors of  Trolls just lend themselves to it! So she gave me 15 dolls to work with and I went to town. 

 All you need is:

• shadow box frames (I used the very affordable Ribba frames from Ikea)
• Troll dolls (or any other cool doll will do!)
• matte board
• strong needle & thread

How to:

1. Remove the glass from each of the frames.  In my opinion it looks a lot cooler when the dolls aren't hidden under the glass.
2. Cut plain white matte board to fit inside each frame
3. Find the center of the board and make 4 tiny holes with your needle and begin sewing each troll to the board
4. Place it inside the frame
5. Hang on the wall and do a little happy dance because it looks super fabulous!

I think this project works for kids and adults!  And I really wish I had even more Trolls to cover the entire wall!  Maybe next time...
