How fab is this groovy piece of
street art? Spotted on Melrose by my design school friend Allie. Love it! By my fave girly street artist,
Becca Midwood. Oh to be as glam and cool as the gal in this piece with a bear serving her a martini...
Speaking of cool. Or not cool in this case... I got a call from my sister recently... I have two sisters. This one has a lot of kids and a very little free time so I don't speak with her so often. Anyhow, she called me recently and said she wanted my advice. Interesting because this was the first time she has ever called me for advice.
Anyhow, she proceeds to tell me that her oldest kid (a tween) isn't in with the popular crowd and the popular kids are not so nice to him. And then her exact words were "well, I remember you were pretty unpopular in middle school so I was wondering if you had any advice on what I should do." Hmmm... thanks for reminding me, sis. Family always brings you back to earth right? Yeah, I was a dork. Never the cool kid. Super awkward. Still am. And frankly, now I will just let my dork flag fly. Hopefully I don't look it as much on the outside... I have grown into my big feet, I no longer have big frizzy hair, or wear Holly Hobby glasses with a perpetual glob of super glue on the bridge - I was not the most coordinated gal and had a bad habit of getting hit in the face with a soccer ball back then and my dad would "fix" my glasses after every game. Sadly, Super Glue circa 1983 did not dry clear. It dried yellow. Cute, right? My advice to her was not to pressure him and just be there for him and let him be who he is. Maybe find a club or class with similar interests for him to join. And really, it's so much better to peak later in life than early. I should know.
